Zodiac Glue (Neoprene Hypalon) Instructions for Use - Z7098
Use Zodiac Neoprene Hypalon adhesive (2-part) for professional repairs to your Hypalon inflatable boat or RIB. Follow the steps below carefully for a strong bond.
Important conditions when bonding
- The temperature of the room in which the bonding will take place must be between 20°C and 25°C .
- The humidity should not exceed 70% .
Mix the glue and hardener well according to the ratio on the packaging.
Mixing ratio: 5–7% harder than the adhesive
(e.g. 125 ml glue + 7.5 ml hardener, or 250 ml glue + 15 ml hardener)
Preparing for the repair
- Cut or trim the patch (Neoprene Hypalon repair sticker) to size.
TIP : If possible, round the corners of the patch for a neater finish and stronger adhesion. - Trace the outline of the area to be repaired using a white pencil or a silver or green ink pen.
⚠️ Don't use a blue-writing pen! - Next, lightly sand both surfaces (both the patch and the area on the boat).
- Then degrease both parts with a special cleaner – do not use acetone! Only degrease the marked area on the boat.
Gluing instructions
- First coat : Apply a thin layer of adhesive to both surfaces using long, straight strokes. Let dry for about 10 minutes.
- Second coat : Apply another thin coat and let it dry for about 15 minutes.
Then apply the patch and press firmly from the center outward with a blunt object. You can also use the special stainless steel spatula (pusher) for even pressure.
Remove any adhesive residue immediately with the special cleaner and then press the edges of the patch firmly again.
After this, let it dry for at least 24 hours at a constant temperature. The boat should not come into contact with water again until after 72 hours.
Important warnings and tips
If the glue turns white, you cannot continue gluing.
The cause is usually due to an ambient temperature that is too low or humidity that is too high.
TIP!
When repairing an air leak, deflate the boat/float before starting repairs.
After this, do not inflate the boat for 24 hours to allow the glue to dry.
